Arrested in Glendale, Peoria, or Surprise? Where the Booking Goes

BBThe Bail Barn Team · November 2, 2026

Start With the City, Not a Guess

A West Valley arrest does not land in one building with one phone number. Glendale runs a city jail. Peoria and Surprise do not publish one. Once someone is in the sheriff's system, booking and the first hearing are at a county building in southwest Phoenix, and the bond window is downtown.

This page is about those doors and the numbers that reach them. It is general information, not legal advice. Questions about the charges belong with a criminal defense lawyer.

If you want a person on the phone while you sort out which building it is, The Bail Barn answers 24 hours a day, including holidays, at (623) 428-2276.

Check Two Records Before You Drive

A text that says "I'm at the jail" is a clue. It is not an address.

If the person may already be in sheriff's custody, use the free Maricopa County inmate search. Search the full legal name, and add a date of birth if you have it. When booking is finished, the listing typically shows the facility, the charges, a bond amount if one has been set, a booking number, and a holds section. Keep the booking number.

A blank result in the first hours is common. The person may still be with the police department, in a van, or in line at intake. Call the arresting department and ask whether they are still there.

Glendale Has a City Jail

The city's jail page says the jail holds people waiting for an initial appearance on misdemeanor charges. Some charges have a preset bond, and the city says release can happen before the hearing. The Police Department runs the jail, and people there may make unlimited collect calls.

The jail is at 6835 N. 57th Drive. The city says (623) 930-3020 can tell you whether someone is in custody there, 24 hours a day. Call before you drive. A name that is missing from the county search may still be at the city jail.

That page also says the jail does not offer visits and does not accept money or personal property. Do not take cash to 57th Drive. A Glendale bond is handled through Glendale City Court, a different counter. The Glendale City Court guide covers how that court says a city bond can be paid, and the fact that paying it does not end the case.

People released from the city jail are picked up at 6835 N. 57th Drive, in the plaza between City Court and the police department. Jail court is at 5711 W. Glendale Avenue. The city says it starts at 9 a.m., including weekends and holidays. That hearing is for people still at the city jail. It is not the county initial appearance.

When Glendale Moves Someone Into the County

If the person cannot post bond after the initial appearance, Glendale says they may be transferred to the Sheriff's Office 4th Avenue Jail until the next Glendale court date or until bond is posted. The same page says people brought to court from the sheriff are released from the 4th Avenue Jail.

Set that next to what the Sheriff's Office publishes. Police-custody bookings are processed at Intake, Transfer, and Release, called ITR, at 2670 S. 28th Drive, Phoenix, AZ 85009. The office says everyone in its custody is released from that building, then sent to the public parking lot at Gibson and 28th Drive. Unauthorized vehicles may not park or drive by the ITR lobby.

If the two pages seem to name different doors, follow the inmate search. The bond window is a separate stop, covered below. Call (602) 876-0322 to confirm the facility. Have the booking number, or the full name and date of birth.

Superior Court says ITR replaced old central intake at 4th Avenue Jail. It is open 24 hours. The Sheriff's Office holds Initial Appearance Court at 2670 S. 28th Drive, every day including holidays, every three hours from 2 a.m. through 11 p.m. Glendale's 9 a.m. jail court is only for people still at the city jail.

Arizona's criminal rules say the initial appearance has to happen within 24 hours of the arrest or the person must be released. That is about reaching the hearing. The magistrate can still set a bond or order the person to stay in custody. Until an amount is on the booking, there is no honest figure to pay.

Peoria: Call the Department First

Peoria does not publish a city jail, a 24-hour detainee line, or a public holding address.

The old jail on Washington Street in Old Town is a preserved 1939 building. It is not where an arrest goes now. Do not wait there.

While the county search is blank, call Peoria Police at (623) 773-8311. Ask whether the person is still with the department or already headed to county intake. The administration building is at 8351 W. Cinnabar Avenue, Peoria, AZ 85345. It is not a published pickup jail.

Once the person is in sheriff's custody, booking and release are at ITR, not at the garage by Peoria City Court. That court is a later stop, and it is closed Friday. Hours, and the split between a city fine and a county bond, are on the Peoria Municipal Court guide.

Surprise: No Published City-Jail Desk

Surprise does not publish a city jail with a public inmate line.

Call Surprise Police at (623) 222-4000 and ask if the person is still with the department. The main station is at 14250 W. Statler Plaza, Suite 103. That line is not a city-jail desk, and a substation is not a pickup address. If they have gone to the county, wait for the inmate search and read the facility line.

Housing after intake may be Watkins, Towers, Lower Buckeye, Estrella, 4th Avenue, or the short-term beds at ITR. If the line says Watkins, use the Watkins Jail guide. Watkins is 2680 South 28th Drive. Release is 2670. The bond is neither door.

Where the Bond Is Paid

Match the bond to the court that set it.

A city bond is paid through that city court. Glendale's clerk is at 5711 W. Glendale Avenue, (623) 930-2400. Peoria's court is at 10100 N. 83rd Avenue, (623) 773-7400, closed Friday. Surprise City Court's payment page lists 16081 N. Civic Center Plaza, Suite 105, Surprise, AZ 85374, (623) 222-4800, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed holidays. None of those windows is the sheriff's bond room, and none is open at 2 a.m.

A Maricopa County criminal bond is posted in person at the Bond and Fine Room, 201 S. 4th Avenue, Phoenix. Superior Court says it is not paid by phone, text, email, or a payment app. The Sheriff's Office accepts only the exact amount, and it says release processing may take up to 24 hours after the payment. The wait is typically hours, not minutes. A hold can keep someone in custody after the bond is paid. Ask at (602) 876-0322 before any money moves.

A citation may name a justice court instead. Parts of Glendale and Peoria are in precincts at 14264 W. Tierra Buena Lane, Surprise, (602) 372-2000. Hassayampa, in that building, is the precinct the county chart ties to Surprise. Use the court printed on the paper. The justice courts guide has the list. A county jail bond is not paid at that counter.

What to Have When You Call

You can call with whatever you have. These details shorten it:

  • Full legal name and date of birth
  • Which agency made the arrest: Glendale, Peoria, or Surprise
  • Whether Glendale's jail line said the person is at 57th Drive
  • Booking number, if the inmate search has one
  • The facility line, once it appears
  • Whether a bond amount is listed, and the exact figure
  • Whether anyone has mentioned a hold

If the search is empty, say that. The next call is the police department, not a drive downtown.

Families call from Glendale, Peoria, Surprise, and the other cities on our service-area page. The county doors are the same. The first phone call is not.

If the court set a county money bond, one path is to pay the full amount at the 4th Avenue Bond and Fine Room. Accepted forms are in the 4th Avenue guide. That sum is the court's security, not a fee paid to a bail agency.

The other path is a licensed bail agent. The Bail Barn quotes a premium of 10% of the bail amount, with a $150 minimum. That figure is an estimate of the premium only. Additional fees may apply. Call (623) 428-2276 for the exact total. The premium is paid to the agency. It is separate from the bail the court set, and it is not refunded the way a cash deposit with the court can be. Credit cards are accepted, and payment plans are available when the premium is the stretch. Release from sheriff's custody is still through ITR.

FAQ

My family member was arrested in Glendale. Are they at the city jail or a county jail?

Call (623) 930-3020. The city says that line can confirm custody at 6835 N. 57th Drive. If they were transferred, follow the facility on the inmate search. The city jail does not accept money.

Peoria and Surprise do not list a city jail. Where do I look?

If the county search is blank, call Peoria Police at (623) 773-8311 or Surprise Police at (623) 222-4000. After a sheriff's booking, the address is 2670 S. 28th Drive, and the inmate search names the housing jail.

Where is the bond paid if they are in a Maricopa County jail?

In person at 201 S. 4th Avenue, or through a licensed bail agent. The Bail Barn quotes a premium of 10% of the bail amount, with a $150 minimum. That estimate is the premium only. Additional fees may apply. Call (623) 428-2276 for the exact total. A city bond goes to that city court.

One Building, Then the Right Phone

Confirm the building before anyone gets in the car. Glendale may still be 57th Drive. Peoria and Surprise start with a call to the department. Once the sheriff has the person, booking is at ITR and the county bond window is at 4th Avenue.

The Bail Barn is a licensed bail bond agency serving Maricopa County, open 24 hours a day. If you need help tonight, contact The Bail Barn or call (623) 428-2276. We will look up the booking with you, tell you whether the next stop is a city jail or the county window, and explain the premium in plain numbers.
