Avondale and Goodyear each have a municipal court, and both cities also feed Maricopa County justice courts that happen to sit in an Avondale building. Three addresses, three phone systems. The name on the citation picks the door.
Neither city court hears felonies. A felony goes to Superior Court in downtown Phoenix. This page is general information, not legal advice.
Avondale City Court
Avondale City Court is at 11325 W. Civic Center Drive, Avondale, AZ 85323. The phone on the city directory and on the city’s citation instructions is (623) 333-5800. The directory email is EmailCityCourt@avondaleaz.gov. The citation sheet lists fax (623) 333-0580.
Hours on that citation sheet are Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., closed Fridays and legal holidays. The directory matches the Monday–Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. window. The court’s general-information page adds that open court is available Mondays at 8:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. A Friday hearing is not on the published calendar. The city’s ticket instructions also say Spanish-speaking callers can press 2 at (623) 333-5800. That is the court’s phone option. It is not a service The Bail Barn offers.
The court hears civil traffic tickets, criminal misdemeanors including criminal traffic, orders of protection, injunctions against harassment, parking tickets, and cases under the city’s property-maintenance, sanitation, and fire codes. It does not hear felonies, small claims, contract disputes, negligence claims for money damages, divorce or custody, or landlord-tenant cases. Those belong in justice court or Superior Court, depending on the case.
On a criminal charge, the city’s ticket instructions say the person must appear at the date and time on the ticket. Failure to appear can bring a warrant, and the court says that failure is reported to the Motor Vehicle Division. A civil ticket can go to a defensive-driving class if it is marked eligible, a written request for a hearing, or payment. Wait at least ten business days before walking in early. The police filing may not be in the system yet.
Litchfield Park court appearances are held at this same Avondale building. The Town of Litchfield Park says those appearances are Wednesday afternoons beginning at 1:30 p.m., at 11325 W. Civic Center Drive. A Litchfield Park civil ticket can also be handled by calling (623) 333-5800. Do not look for a separate Litchfield Park courthouse on that Wednesday.
The city also says a defendant can be booked into jail from the courtroom, so do not bring a child who would be left without a caregiver.
Goodyear Municipal Court
Goodyear Municipal Court is at 14455 W. Van Buren Street, Suite B-101, Goodyear, AZ 85338. The phone is (623) 882-7200. Fax (623) 932-6936. Email goodyearcourt@courts.az.gov, and the court says every message has to include the name, case information, mailing address, and phone number.
Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Goodyear is open Friday. Avondale’s city court is not. They are also on different streets. Van Buren at suite B-101 is not Civic Center Drive.
The about page says the judge hears misdemeanors and petty offenses inside the city: civil traffic, criminal traffic, other criminal misdemeanors, juvenile traffic, liquor violations, and city code violations. The court has concurrent jurisdiction with the justice court on orders of protection, injunctions against harassment, and search warrants. It collects bonds, fines, and restitution on its own cases.
Appearances are presumptively in person. A remote appearance needs a written motion, at the counter, by fax to (623) 932-6936, or by email. The court offers text reminders for court dates and payment dates if the cell number on file is current, and interpreter services on request. Its pages include Spanish instructions. Use the court for that. The Bail Barn does not provide Spanish-language service.
On a traffic complaint, the arraignment is at the bottom of the ticket, above the signature. Criminal traffic requires an appearance. The plea-by-mail form is for civil charges only. A citation can take 8 to 10 working days to reach the file. Call (623) 882-7200 before mailing a civil plea.
The City Prosecutor handles criminal cases filed here, including DUI, and sits in the same building. The city says the prosecutor is part of Legal Services, not part of the court. The payment window is the wrong desk for that conversation.
The justice courts in the Avondale building
10420 W. Van Buren Street, Avondale, AZ 85323 is the Southwest regional justice center, not Avondale City Court and not Goodyear Municipal Court. Windows are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
From the county directory:
- Country Meadows, (602) 372-8000. The county’s community chart associates it with Glendale, west Phoenix, and Avondale.
- Agua Fria, (602) 372-8001. The chart associates it with Tolleson, Avondale, and the west Valley.
- Maryvale, (602) 372-8002. The chart says west Phoenix.
- White Tank, (602) 372-8003. The chart says Buckeye and Goodyear.
Canyon Trails is scheduled to open in this building on January 1, 2027, at (602) 372-8004, splitting the current White Tank precinct along Interstate 10. Until that opening, White Tank is the published court for the Goodyear and Buckeye side. The citation still wins over the chart. Precinct boundaries are on the justice courts guide.
City officers generally cite into the municipal court. State and county officers often cite into one of these precincts. If the paper says White Tank, do not stand in the Goodyear Municipal Court line on Van Buren.
Custody, the county bond, and the premium
Someone booked into a sheriff’s jail is on the MCSO inmate search. The record can name the facility, the bond, the next court, and any hold. MCSO says not to use it as the official record for a legal action.
When the obligation is a Maricopa County criminal bond, Superior Court says to post it in person at the Bond and Fine Room, northwest corner of the 4th Avenue Jail, 201 S. 4th Avenue, Phoenix. Not at Civic Center Drive, not at Goodyear’s suite B-101, and not at 10420 W. Van Buren. The court says that payment is not taken by phone, text, or a payment app. Booking and Initial Appearance Court are at Intake, Transfer, and Release, 2670 S. 28th Drive, which replaced central intake at 4th Avenue Jail. Release processing may take up to 24 hours, and the release door is that same ITR address. See the 4th Avenue guide.
A surety bond is posted by a licensed bail agent. The Bail Barn quotes a premium of 10% of the bail amount, with a $150 minimum. That estimate is the premium only. Additional fees may apply. Call (623) 428-2276 for the exact total. We answer when both city courts are closed.
Call the court named on the paper if you need a date. Call (602) 876-0322 if you need the sheriff’s facility line. Call (623) 428-2276 if you need the bond posted. Those are three different jobs.
Avondale and Goodyear families often have a relative coming from farther west. The court will still be the one printed on the citation, even if everyone lives in a different city.
